About the work
Fanfare is for any number of performers of any instruments. Parts should be allocated fairly equally among the players but with a view to also achieving a balance of sound between the instrumental parts.
Notated pitches are merely indicative although the given clefs do indicate that a high or low instrument should be allocated the relevant part.
If any instrument normally uses a different clef, e.g. viola, the player may (notionally) replace the given clef with the usual one.
If the ensemble includes a piano (or any instrument that is normally notated on more than one stave), the player(s) should play from the score, playing any or all of the staves in the score. Clusters may be used but, if so, preferably throughout.
