About the work

Anima is the feminine part of the human spirit and found in male as well as female. Strong, warm and life-giving, yet containing darker forces, it is the seat of human creativity. This simple yet intense piece was written specially for the participants of this, the first COMA course. Written in Burrell’s distinctive style, it forms an unforgettable and important part of her repertoire. A must for string orchestras wanting to include a truly contemporary and effective work in a mixed programme.

First Performance: COMA Summer School String Orchestra, Sep 1993, Firth Hall, Sheffield
