Celli – Chela
Swayne, Adam
About the work
chela – n., pl., -lae (-le)
A pincerlike claw of a crustacean, such as a crab.
In this piece the cellists become crabs that try to scuttle across a musical rock pool (avoiding mudflats) and who ‘nip’ other crabs along the way.
Origin
Composed for University of Chichester’s Cello Weekend, directed by Dr. Laura Ritchie, March 2013
