About the work
Written in response to CoMA’s “Open Score” Project in 2007, Chorodea takes as its inspiration the idea of the Ancient Greek Chorus and the Protagonist.
The ensemble is split into three and material is treated antiphonally, being passed from one to the other. The oboe soloist is at first pitted against the ensemble and continues in opposition, trying in vain to maintain his/her lyrical line against the increasingly powerful “voice” of the ensemble until the end, when exhausted he becomes one of the ensemble.
Technical notes
Instrumentalists are also vocalists in this piece.
