Divergence
Harchanko, Joseph
About the work
‘Divergence’ was created as an open ended score of indefinite length for indefinite instruments. It celebrates what is best in music: communication and cooperation between performers and the spontaneity of individual musical feeling and expression.
Technical notes
The score contains 3 lines, one described as a continuo. It is divided into bars with a specified duration in seconds, and each part has actions at some point in each bar, so players will need to judge for themselves when to play. While the piece maintains its unique character, the players are free to shape its gestures according to their own musical intuition. It therefore must be approached expressively, but with strict mechanical rhythmical precision.
