About the work

The piece was written for the Tynedale Symphony Orchestra, and is in four movements. The opening movement has a sonata like structure, and begins with a semi-quaver rhythm and horn call, followed by a second, more lyrical, theme. Following a development and recapitulation, the movement ends in a somewhat desolate coda.
