About the work

This piece was originally inspired by listening to rain on a corrugated roof. The rain starts, builds up to a steady downpour then dies away at the end.

First Performance: ELLSO 1992

Technical notes

Pizzicato strings throughout – players need to be able to attack together and create dynamic variety. 5/8 time-signature with quavers grouped either 3+2 or 2+3. Individual parts don’t make much sense on their own – the tune emerges when parts played together.
