About the work

Dry stone walls cover much of the high uplands in the borderland hills between Lancashire and Yorkshire. They almost seem like veins of memory for the landscape, sometimes going back for over 200 years. In ‘Dry Stone Walls of Yorkshire’, live performers combine with a pre-recorded soundtrack to evoke the atmosphere, sounds and memories of this landscape. Parts of the soundtrack are field recordings made on and around Saddleworth Moor. This piece was commissioned for CoMA by Howard Jones, Artistic Director of Open Score 2012.
