Feather and Groove
Davies, Tansy
About the work
Feather and Groove is built from two distinct layers: a two-part dialogue for bass instruments and an extended melodic line for high instruments.
The title describes the layers: the groove is dark, obsessive, grinding and machine-like, while the melodic line drifts and floats above the bass layer like a feather. Occasionally the feather drifts down towards the groove, where it briefly connects, before moving on swiftly, resuming its distance.
