About the work

My chamber ensemble work ‘For Morton Feldman’ was commissioned by CoMA and is dedicated to the composer Morton Feldman, with whom I had composition lessons at the Dartington Summer School exactly twenty years ago in August 1986. He awarded me the Tippett Prize in Composition, and what he said in these lessons, and his attitude to many things has stayed dearly with me over the years.

Technical notes

This work is written in a spatial notation where each instrumentalist should play the notes written approximately in relation to the crotchet pulse, which gradually gets faster throughout the work.
