About the work

The Four Songs are all based on actual events. Long Scissors was written in response to a book about child killers. The Evening Walk is in memory of neighbours in the countryside in France. Them and Us is after an article by an Irish woman journalist visiting Bosnia, and Tessa’s Tale is also a real-life tragedy though on a different scale.

First performed at CoMA Summer School 1999 by Mick Peake on piano and Sarah Marrion, soprano.
