Heavens Help Me
About the work
Written for Philip Cashian’s Musical Jigsaws workshop at the 2001 COMA Summer School, the piece tries to evoke the despair and helplessness of patients in a 19th century asylum. Their cure was deemed possible by forced outdoor observation of the moon and stars often in freezing conditions. Many died of exposure and hypothermia.
First Performance: CoMA Summer School 2001
Final trills to be played as raucously as possible.
