About the work

In Memoriam – Sacagawea is a moving, elegiac tribute to Sacagawea, the brave Indian woman who led Lewis and Clark on their trek to the Pacific. It is movement taken and arranged from the composer’s “Wind River Country” for Woodwind Quintet, which is based on scenes in early Wyoming. Native American songs freely mix with composed material to provide a musical mosaic.
