Kucinata – Macedonian Song
Parsons, Michael
About the work
This instrumental arrangement is based on a melody from the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, taken from a collection of traditional songs from southern Macedonia. ‘Kucinata’ means ‘little dogs’. This four part arrangement can be played by any suitable ensemble of wind or brass instruments, but works well as a clarinet quartet. Performed by the London Chamber Group at the Conway Hall, November 1998.
Technical notes
The piece used Balkan rhythms in 7/8, and so on, but a little familiarity with these rhythms will ensure that the piece works.
