About the work
In the art form of photo-montage, an image is assembled from a mosaic of separate photographs taken from many angles, creating subtle fracturings and transformations of the original. This work explores the idea of photo-montage in musical terms, with a series of related fragments of music undergoing small-scale transformations in order to create a larger picture. It was written for the Chamber Music Exchange project.
The piece is fast throughout, and is marked ‘Allegro volante, with momentum’. There are time signatures changes nearly every bar at the start, then a longer passage in 8/8, before a return to the opening pattern.
