About the work

These short pieces are ‘snapshots’ of a larger imaginary piece, just as a preview of a film offers short moments of the film itself. Each piece is deliberately contrasting in both character and style, but can be seen as a small part of a much larger experience. The piece was written in response to a call for miniature pieces to mark the new millennium by Ensemble Decadanse, and first performed by them in 2000, revised in 2008

Technical notes

Each short piece is of variable difficulty. However, there is no reason why a beginner cannot be involved in some way in the flexibly instrumented lines provided they are playing with a more advanced player. The keyboard part is the most difficult, and the keyboard player leads the ensemble.
