Patterns of Earth
Quail, Margaret
About the work
The piece evolved out of ideas associated with the various views of the earth. There is first the distant planet, followed by the broad sweep you see when approaching, perhaps, by air. Then there are the rectangular patterns of fields and the repeated, continuous movements of rivers. Coming closer, the terrain is uneven and layered with sharp angles rising and falling. Always there is the sense of the build up of internal energy.
