About the work

Mateo Soto is from Cartagena in Spain, where he studied at the High Conservatory of Music, gaining the ‘Prize Extraordinary’. He has composed pieces for numerous national festivals, and been commissioned by Spanish orchestras. This piece was written in 1994 for clarinet students at the Conservatory. the four movements are: Largo, Menuetto, Francesa, and Canon a 3. Performed by the London Chamber Group at the Conway Hall, London, in November 1998.

Technical notes

Rhythmic complexity in the second and fourth movement will require a good sense of ensemble.
