About the work

The image I held in mind whilst writing this piece was one of the world, and civilisation, in terminal decline, disintegrating slowly at first, but at an accelerating pace. I compared this to the dance of Shiva, the god of destruction in Hindu mythology, hence most of the piece is an acceleration, with rhythms being thrown between players in a complex interplay. The redemption of the title arrives at the very end where the introduction of the marimba brings calmness.

Technical notes

The instruments requires include snare drums, tin cans, conch shell, tom-toms, bongos, congas, marimba, and a variety of others.
