Seven Pieces for Piano
Rowley, Helen
About the work
Each of the seven pieces has a criteria. The first three pieces Acclivity, Juxtapose and Mist are short contrasting pieces each about a minute in length. Piece number four is exploring chordal textures and is contrasting pieces 1,2,and 3. The fifth piece uses three different themes, a contrast to the thematic development in the other pieces. Piece number six takes it title from a poem called ‘The Spiders’ by Andrew Young. ‘With Deadly Symmetry’ is therefore the theme of the piece with the line of symmetry occurring on the barline between bars nine and ten. The final piece is a theme and variations, also written to conclude the piece.
