About the work
Tesknota is a piece for 4 to 8 melody instruments or two pianos. During a Question and Answer session following a workshop performing the then-untitled version, an audience member suggested that the Polish word “Tesknota” perfectly captured the feeling of the piece and that, roughly translated, it means “a sorrowful longing”. Tesknota is dedicated to John Cage.

Where parts are doubled, they are to be done so in the same octave, with similar (or identical) instruments if possible. Players of non-C instruments will have to transpose, but since there are only 5 pitches used, transposition should not pose a significant barrier to learning.
