About the work

The Antivirtuoso was written in 1998 for the Cornelius Cardew Ensemble. It is a music-theatre piece using tape and overhead projector slides as well as live musicians, and it takes the form of an exam. For this reason it should be performed with the minimum of rehearsal.

First Performance: Cornelius Cardew Ensemble 1998, CoMA Summer School

Technical notes

A framework for improvisation. Music theatre. A piece for all players. Needs musical intelligence rather than technique.
