The Moon Falls Through the Autumn
About the work
I wrote these piano pieces to suggest ways in which you might venture into the world of composing your own piano pieces. Pieces you could then play to your friends around you. The overall title is taken from a poem by e e cummings. Some of the titles are taken from prints by the artist Stanley Wiliam Hayter.
The pieces can be played in any order, separately or as a group, although they get progressively more difficult. Some of them try to explore some extended techniques, such as tapping on the lid or sliding hands up and down the keys.
