About the work

The rhythms, textures and colours in this piece were directly drawn from the angles, shapes and colours of David Bomberg’s painting. I noticed the ‘mud people’ only after looking at the picture for some time – the ‘mud man’ (D1) is sitting on the far left of the picture, the ‘mud dancer’ (D2) is standing on one leg, centre-right, and the ‘mud mama’ (D3) is lying back in the centre of the painting.
