About the work

Took Her is based on a 13th Century French Cathar hymn called Le Bouvier which was first written in ancient french Occitan.  The hymn tells the story of a cattle herder who comes home from a long day at work to find his wife unwell by the fire.  She says when I die bury me deep in the cellar.  And the pilgrims when they come will ask who died here and they’ll say it was the poor Jeanne.
