About the work

Tsunami is the name for a Pacific tidal wave caused by an underwater volcanic eruption or earthquake. Signs in most coastal buildings in New Zealand warn: “When you hear the alarm siren, do not go to the beach to watch! By the time you see it, it will already be too late to escape.” A tidal wave can theoretically stack to a height of 66 metres (198 feet) and travel the width of the Pacific Rim. Tsunami was commissioned by Thalia Myers in 1997 with funds provided by the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music, UK for the second volume of the Spectrum collection.
