About the work
A piece for 6 vocal parts (solo or choral) and flute or other pitched instrument capable of breathy sounds and tremolo.
The piece is written in memoriam Karen Weaver, a musician and friend who directed the Cleveland (Ohio) ensemble Windsong and who died this year at the untimely age of 58. It’s based on various vocalisations and other sounds that (hopefully) conjur the sound of wind in the trees – and I have been able to listen to a lot of that this spring in London! A wonderful poem by John Clare is the source of the lyrics. You can read the poem in full at
