To celebrate Making Music Day UK, our Open Score Club on 21st June will feature Song of Spring by out very own Sheena Philips. It is inspired by Ukrainian song Черемшина (“cheremshina” – wild cherry).
The composer explains: “This piece is a response to the savage and atrocious war in Ukraine proceeding apace this spring. It draws on the melody and words of a popular Ukrainian song that celebrates spring. But, reflecting the painful fate of Ukraine, all we hear are fragments of the original song – mixed with Ukrainian words for war and its awful consequences, and the names of some of the main Ukrainian cities being attacked and devastated.”
CoMA Glasgow is open to all, so this event is charged on a a pay-what-you-can-afford basis. If you can afford to do so, consider paying it forward to support others who may not be able to pay.
