Project #2 – Remote Connections

About the project

Led by composer Dr Ruta Vitkauskaite, the ‘YouCreate’ project invited musicians of all instruments, composers and sound creators to come together to create and perform a collaborative and unique piece of contemporary music for the lockdown-generation. We developed the piece over four video calls during May/June, and held an online premiere of the completed composition, titled Remote Connections, on 20th June 2020.

Try it yourself

If you are part of an ensemble and would like to try our Remote Connection video score yourself, we have prepared a silent version of of the video which you can watch and play along with. The score was first created and performed by 15 musicians but can be interpreted by any number from 5+. The instrumentation in the score is just a suggestion, and in some sections of the score, instead of instruments, there are names – this all is to be interpreted freely. The score combines symbols, hand conducting, and some notation: these are to be followed to the understanding of the group – open-mindedness and interpretation skills are essential for the best result. No conductor is needed to perform this score, and players can perform from the comfort of their own homes using Zoom.
