CoMA London is providing an opportunity for London composers to write for a mixed-ability flexible orchestral ensemble. The works can be at any stage of creation from early sketches to final scores. Compositions should be in CoMA’s Open Score format of four parts plus, optional piano and percussion, so not dependant on specific instruments being available. Find out more about Open Score here.
You must register in advance so we can provide you with the list of specific transpositions required. You can also play with ensemble on other composer’s pieces to give you experience of the process from a player’s perspective (you will need to tell us what instrument onthe booking form.
Your piece can be anything from first attempts at composition to afull works. Your pieces should be short (up to 5 minutes). If they are longer you should indicate which sections you would like us to workshop. As the piece must be to Open Score format, music written previously for specific instruments is likely to need reworking.
You are expected to be present at both workshops (on Tuesdays 28 June and 5 July). We will try out pieces at the first workshop and provide you feedback from the conductor, ensemble, and a professional composition tutor. You can then revise the piece for the second week. You must submit scores by Tuesday 21 June and bring all necessary parts to the rehearsals.
The workshops are free.
Please register here and you will then receive a full brief about writing with flexible scoring for CoMA.
