CoMA Sheffield

About

CoMA Sheffield was formed online during lockdown. We had our first in person rehearsal in June 2021 and have been meeting monthly since September 2021.  We are ably led by composer Louise Vincent and much of what we play is written by members of the ensemble.

in March 2022 we launched CoMA Sheffield publically with a workshop and concert featuring new pieces by Non-Classical Composer Emily Abdy and University of Sheffield composition student Jane Sophia

We have great plans for the year ahead including workshops with The Hermes Experiment in December and an all comers workshop and concert in March 2024 as part of CoMA’s Festival of Contemporary Music.

Recent activities include

  • Music in the Arts Tower with Platform 4 and Sheffield University Concerts.
  • Partnering with CoMA Manchester and Music in the Round to stage a concert and workshop in Sheffield’s Channing Hall.
  • Workshop and performance with young musicians from Sheffield Music School at Site Gallery.
  • Playing in the Winter Garden with Raye Harvey (Ignition Orchestra, Her Ensemble, Chineke! Orchestra).

We welcome players, composers and singers.  All abilities are welcome but you do need to be able to read music.  Get in touch with sheffield@coma.org if you would like to get involved, or would just like to know more about contemporary music.
