CoMA West Midlands is one of the newest CoMA regional ensemble. We are a growing group, with the usual CoMA mixture of amateur, semi-professional, and professional musicians. We meet monthly to rehearse and workshop a mixture of pieces written by group members and works from the CoMA library.
The group currently meets at the Performance Hub of University of Wolverhampton’s Walsall Campus.
On the 4th March 2016 as part of the national Contemporary Music for All Festival we worked with partners BCMG and Wolverhampton University to create a successful allcomers weekend event in which composer Michael Finnissy conducted his “Plain Harmony” and a new commission by Tansy Davies “The Third Key”. The weekend included composing sessions by Finnissy and Davies, an open discussion group and an exciting concert involving CoMA West Midlands, CoMA East Midlands, BCMG all-comers and Birmingham Contemporary Voices.
If you would like to join please contact us using the email below. You are welcome to come to a free taster session.
We rehearse fortnightly, and our rehearsals are interspersed with occasional events such as composer’s workshops.
All rehearsals are at the Performance Hub, Wolverhampton University Walsall Campus, Gorway Road, Walsall WS1 3BD
Sessions cost £6 (free to full time students); players will need to be Friends of CoMA by their third rehearsal. Come and try us out for free – there’s no charge for your first rehearsal.
