Linking in with International Women’s Day there was a contemporary music workshop with composer and singer Laura Bowler focusing on the work of women composers.
Laura Bowler and hcmf// led a creative day in celebration of International Women’s Day! A multi-disciplinary musician and vocalist, Bowler guided participants in co-creating a new piece of contemporary music. The composition was written collaboratively, with participants sharing and combining personal ideas of identity. The workshop explored many of the things that drive Bowler’s own practice, such as the physical nature of performance and the role of political activism in music.
No experience was necessary: participants of all musical abilities were invited to come along and help one another compose! All they needed to do is bring along an instrument of tehirchoice – or, their voice – and some written text that they felt reflected their identity in some way.
