Overview
Events in Macclesfield were led by KEMS Macclesfield Concert Band and Contemporary Ensemble and based in the Parish Church of St Michael and All Angels which is a regular concert venue for KEMS Macclesfield.
In the afternoon, there were two workshops – the vocal workshop was led by Lily Bracegirdle and explored the CoMA-commissioned pieces Echoing Green and Trouble with Adverbs while the instrumentalists’ workshop explored In C with Julia Harding. A trail was also set up in the church to enable younger people to explore the church and to encounter ‘new’ musical instruments.
After a short break, there was a concert of Flute and Clarinet duets – Tim Ward and Julia Harding performed Airs and Dances by John Reynolds, Airheads by Gary Schoeker and Smaprat by Hans Eklund. Then the workshop participants performed to each other and any members of the public who wished to stay and watch.
The evening’s concert programme included several pieces that had been commissioned by CoMA in previous years and provided a good opportunity for the Concert Band to give a second performance of Martian Saloon which had been composed specially for them a few years ago. It was also a great opportunity for our partner groups to explore and perform new repertoire.
An exhausting yet enjoyable day for all involved and a great opportunity to focus on the music being composed ‘in our time’!
