Beach Thing

About the work

Beach Thing
– a thing you find on the beach.
This piece is about exploring the beach. I grew up near various beaches where I would play and explore including one on the edge of my grandparent’s garden. I am passionate about beach ecologies and protecting these incredibly biodiverse environments for future generations to enjoy and explore.
Fact – It is estimated that Scotland (including all the islands) has some 11,602 miles of coastline.

This piece is part graphic score part notation, utilising images of the animals around Scotland’s coastline that players bring to life through their instruments. It’s a piece with a lot of joy and fun, and works particularly well for 14-18 year-olds, but is just as rewarding for everyone else.
