This piece has as its basis a rhythm in 5/4 from Cornelius Cardew’s The Great Learning. The title alludes to how I began to write it during some time off work: working on the composition, then doing bits of spring cleaning while thinking over musical ideas, then going back to my laptop to try to write those ideas down.
Harmonically, it uses a Carnatic (south Indian classical) scale, Panthuvarali, beginning on D, which I had learned around the same time and the character of which I especially enjoyed.
Piano and percussion parts are optional.
