This piece has as its basis a rhythm in 5/4 from Cornelius Cardew’s The Great Learning. The title alludes to how Matthew began to write it during some time off work: working on the composition, then doing bits of spring cleaning while thinking over musical ideas, then going back to his laptop to try to write those ideas down.
Harmonically, it uses a Carnatic (south Indian classical) scale, Panthuvarali, beginning on D, which the composer had learned around the same time and the character of which he especially enjoyed.
Piano and percussion parts are optional.
