Dividing the Lines was written for a CoMA workshop at Wortley Hall, Yorkshire, in the summer of 1993.
First Performance: Workshop, CoMA Summer School, Wortley, 1993
The piece consists of a number of continuous lines of music, which are divided between the three instruments in the ensemble. At least four lines of music can be identified: a plodding bass line; a fast rhythmic passage; a boogie-woogie riff and a slightly slower melodic duo/trio. These musics are heard at various points in the piece, either played all together or superimposed (and it all happens within three minutes!).
