‘Hot Blast’ opens with a rhythmic flurry of arpeggios which gradually give way to fast ascending and descending scales. The central section of the piece is slower and fragmented. The piece ends with a long, quiet chord moving around the players, punctuated by triangles struck by members of the orchestra.
