On encountering an animate / inanimate object do you ever feel it is trying to communicate with you? If so, how do you respond? And what would you think if you were eavesdropping on such a ‘conversation’?

For two instruments (one of which may be recorded) separated spacially within the same building. Instruments read treble clef and play lines at indicated times. One plays in reverse order. In performance there will be ‘silent’ moments when neither performer is playing. The lines look difficult, but as the instruction is to play ‘Freely’ these could be interpreted in a way that complements the technical strengths of the performers.
