The composer writes: “‘kinkh’ began as an improvisation, and over a period of months I gradually wrote down what I played until eventually it became a fully-notated piece. I hope, however, that it retains some of the spontaneity of my original inspiration. ‘Kinkh’ is an invented word, meant to imply disjunct, irregular movement in its use of silence and rhythm.
The score contains a good deal of articulation, but accents during quiet passages should not be overly emphasized. The sostenuto pedal should be used in passages marked for ad.lib. pedalling.
This a fairly advanced piece, with many meter changes. It is lively, varied, and the sound is somewhat jazz-like.
