Lacquer is a 4 part piece for open instrumentation with additional solo, duo and trio interjections. The work focuses on rhythmic energy, the juxtaposition of low and high motivic material, concluding with a unison tutti portraying the ensemble as a single unit. The percussion part is split into skin and metal and acts as a colouration of the pitch material.
First performance: DJ Hall, Royal Academy of Music in March 2009 by CoMA London Ensemble conducted by Paul Burnell
