MARATHON is for anyone who has ever gone through something very hard that lasted a long time. The conception of this work began by wanting to evoke the euphoric highs and excruciating lows of participating in a marathon, incorporating the prestige of events like the London Marathon with the carnivallic glee of events like the Hackney Half. The piece explores the dialogue between the mind and the body whilst taking part in a long-distance endurance event.
The work was commissioned as part of our CoMA Festival 2026 and is written for two vocal parts and four instrumental parts plus percussion and piano.
