Musca Domestic Linnaeus is a graphic score that requires players to use their acting skills and imagination to bring the piece to life.
It is part of our immediate pieces anthology of works that are performance-ready with just an hour of rehearsal.
Performers are encouraged to think of their instrument as the voice of the fly, exploring its full range of techniques to capture the buzzing, darting, and unpredictable qualities of the insect.
The work invites a theatrical sensibility: performers are asked to employ a sense of drama and play, using the suggested acting actions to project the fly into the physical concert hall space. Humour, exaggeration, and imagination are encouraged, bringing the buzzing presence of Musca domestica vividly to life for the audience.
