postcard-sized pieces (2020) is a set of small open scores that invites players and listeners to engage with sound through interpretation and listening rather than fixed instructions. It is part of our immediate pieces anthology of works that are performance-ready with just an hour of rehearsal.
Printed on postcard-like cards, the scores use a mix of verbal, graphic, and hybrid notations with suggestions rather than fixed ideas, pitches, durations or instrumentation, allowing the sounds to unfold uniquely in each realisation. The score and concept reflects Sophie Stone’s interest in quiet, fragile sounds and improvisation — emphasising the experience of sound and silence and the agency of players and listeners in shaping each realisation.
