Commissioned by Louisiana State University New Music Ensemble in 1990 when David Penri-Evans was Guest Composer at the Louisiana Festival of Contemporary Music. There are five sections to the piece. The 1st, 3rd, and 5th form a sort of woven back cloth, like a tapestry in which different instruments pick out flecks of colour. The 2nd section is an oboe solo and the 4th a clarinet solo.
First Performance: Louisiana State University Wind Quintet, Montgomery Alabama, USA, May 1990
The piece alternates sections of long chords, with players needing to time their entrances carefully, with quite demanding solos for oboe and clarinet.
