Our Impact

Since 1993, CoMA has fostered a culture of musical creativity and inclusive collaboration throughout communities across the UK and beyond. We are committed to offering inclusive and welcoming environments throughout all that we do.

Our Impact

CoMA believes passionately in the transformative power of musical participation. Since our inception in 1993, we’ve made it possible for around 4,000 amateur musicians to take part in regular musical activity. And in the three years since 2023:

Our Commitment

CoMA’s Commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Since 1993, CoMA has fostered a culture of musical creativity and inclusive collaboration throughout communities across the UK and beyond. We are committed to offering inclusive and welcoming environments throughout all that we do.

The word ‘All’ in our title is a continual motivation for us to always consider how we can be more inclusive and reach those who may not currently be engaging with CoMA activity.

We value everyone who engages with CoMA, whether it be as an audience member, participant, professional or amateur musician or project partner, and we actively encourage conversations that will challenge our approach and help us to continue growing together.

“CoMA has probably done more than any other organisation to reconnect contemporary composers with the general music-loving public.”

-Thalia Myers, Pianist

Keychange

The Keychange pledge was launched to challenge the gender imbalance across the music industry by encouraging music organisations, festivals, and conferences to publicly commit to programming 50% women artists and professionals by 2022. In that year, the pledge was expanded to include a commitment to increase the representation of non binary and gender diverse people.

CoMA joined Keychange in 2017 and since then we have met our 50:50 pledge in commissioning, with 55% of our 60 works being by women and non binary people.

For 2024-25, we commissioned a total of 10 composers, with 70% being women and non binary people. We are also committed to increasing the number of composers from the Global Majority who are commissioned. For the 2024-25 period, 30% of the commissioned composers were from the Global Majority.

We are adapting our pledge to reflect our organisation’s ambition to be more inclusive. We will expand the pledge beyond commissioning to encompass more aspects of our organisation, enabling us to strive for equity across CoMA’s activities.
